Richmond Magazine’s November
Issue
The World at Your Doorstep
— Our Region’s International
Makeup
Many
Iraqi refugees living in Richmond tell the same story of the events in
Baghdad that made them flee: Rampant violence, death threats, and the
loss of loved ones and their homes. As a part of our Global Issue, our
feature “Life in Little Baghdad” offers a closer
look at the families who are still dealing with the trauma suffered in
their homeland as they try to adjust to life here in the Richmond
region.
This
month’s issue many other ways our region connects to the
world,
including:
- DJ Carlito, an aficionado on the Indian entertainment form
of Bollywood, who is drawing Indian and American culture together on
the dance floor.
- With “Divine
Diversity,” we explore the multitude of faiths
being celebrated here — including Islam, Greek
Orthodoxy and Jainism.
- And we mapped out
more than 45 ethnic bakeries and grocers — everything from
African to Russian fare, including new ones from
Brazil and Colombia.
Also inside this
month’s magazine:
- Our latest RHealth
& Beauty section explores marathoners with a mission and
a detailed examination of the cold-weather condition known as Seasonal
Affective Disorder.
- Carytown
Guide digs up great gift ideas for your hard-to-decipher
friends and explores the favorite sweets of the shopping
district’s chefs.
